eBook marketers believe that "The money is in the list," but just what tools and skills are needed to build a profitable business by giving eBooks away?

Note: Giving eBooks away is one of the best marketing techniques because the cost of the product that you are giving away is minimal. Giving a paper and ink book away means paying for printing and postage…issues that are not involved in giving an eBook away. Even better, the reader (and potential customer) gets the eBook instantly. They don’t have to wait for fulfillment and delivery.

The problem with selling eBooks is that lots of other businesses are also selling them (your competitors), and that your eBook business is lost in a sea of other offers.

You may have a great new eBook, but sales are scarce or non-existent.

And, you need a way to promote your eBook to eager customers. If only you could attract them. If your customers knew about the eBook, and if you could describe the benefits that they receive from reading (and applying) it; you would make lots of sales.

If you had an E-mail list, and if you keep sending valuable information to your customers as a valuable service; these folks learn to trust you, and they might buy the eBook because of your relationship with them.

If you send them reviews and if you send other information that solves their problems, your customers will be eager for more (in depth) information…such as the information contained in your eBook.

And, if you had this E-mail list of customers and prospects, you could tell them about other great products you’ve discovered…products that also solve their problems.

The key is getting a list that targets just the right people.

Your first step in creating this hot customer and prospect list is to set up an Opt-in page. (Some marketers call this a "Squeeze Page."

This page contains an online form that is attached to an online database. But, this is a special kind of database because it is attached to software called an "Autoresponder."

Once the Opt-in Page is set up, you figure out how to bring more readers to the Opt-in Page.

The traditional ways to bring these readers include:

  • Writing articles
  • Leaving comments on Blogs and Forums
  • Placing classified ads on eBay, Craig’s List
  • Optimizing your site so that the Search Engines report it in the first page of Search Results
  • Paying for Clicks, i.e., Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising
  • Placing ads in eZines, on Websites, i.e., Banner Ads
  • Setting up an Affiliate Program and letting other people sell your product (on a commission basis)
  • Giving away a free report that contains links to your sales page
  • Developing a free report that people send to other people, i.e., a Viral Report
  • Developing an "Tell a Friend" system where customer refer other customers

But, these methods require time to build your E-mail list.

But, there is another way.

You can set up a "Giveaway Program."

A Giveaway Program is a blend of several of the above methods, and it is like an advertising "Cooperative". You enroll other people who also want to build an E-mail list, and they each provide a giveaway product.

Many eBook marketers use the approach to build a E-mail list and make money at the same time. How?

They charge contributors for the privileged of being listed on the first few pages of the giveaway site.

The benefit of this approach is that it can be automated. The Software that automates a Giveaway Program is called a "Script."

The script collects the contributions of other marketers, and collect product descriptions. The script also sells "upgrades" to the free membership, and provides special placement for this contributor’s products. Another way to "earn" preferred placement for the contributed items is to refer others to the Giveaway. These referrals can be for other contributors, or for "Freebie" seekers who want quality free products.

For a manual on how to conduct an eBook Giveaway Event, check out Giveaway Riches.

Jason James took notes on his testing of successful giveaway events, and created this manual. This is because there are right ways and not-so-right ways to conduct these events.

A manual like this (really an eBook) provides value because it saves lots of time and lots of money because it helps avoid "trial and error" expenses. Trial and error learning is expensive because it also means that you spend time doing things that fail to bring in revenue (or profit).

So, how effective can a giveaway event be? A recent giveaway event built a new subscriber list of 50,000 prospects…and over $100,000.00 in sales! Of course, these 50,000 opt-ins were spread out over lots of different entrepreneurs. But, the organizer and sponsor of the event made out with a list of them all!

So, a Giveaway Event works well if organized and automated correctly.

There are several other enhancements that you can see if you follow how Jason James promotes his eBook.

One thing is a contest among affiliates that includes:

  • Big prizes, i.e., $1,000 to the top seller
  • A Joint Venture (JV) Blog that starts with the "Pre Launch" and keeps everyone up to date
  • A "Leader Board" that tells everyone who is gathering the most leads and making the most referred sales
  • Automated scripts that
  • Substantial commissions to affiliates (60%)
  • Up Sells and Down Sells (Up Sell: The Script that is used to automate the giveaway) (Down Sell: )
  • A 60 day, money back guarantee
  • First day and first week discounts (to introduce urgency and promote buying)
  • A "Virtual Agent" who offers a $10.00 discount if a reader tries to leave the sales page
  • A "Second Tier" referral program where 2nd Tier Link - Refer Affiliates Earn 10%” title=”Link to see the affiliate referral process” target=”_ blank”>recruiting affiliates earns 10% on their sales

In addition, the promotion pays for leads in Amazon gift certificates. The top prize: $1,000.00 in an Amazon Gift Certificate for 10,000 leads.

So, a Giveaway Event helps you build relationships and create a"Win-Win-Win" system…Customers, Referrers/ Affiliates and You.

Giveaway Events are a strategy that helps your eBook business gain stability instead of relying on the twin treadmill of chasing sales and driving traffic. Wouldn’t it be nice to have sales without having to work full blast on the next big project?

Giveaway Events are a way to market your eBooks differently…a way of marketing smarter, not harder.

With the E-mail list that you create you build business by:

  • Providing valuable, useful content
  • Sending product announcements and product reviews
  • Promoting Affiliate offers for related products
  • Keeping your name and your value in front of your subscribers

And, although the Giveaway Event is standard for Internet Marketing, the strategy has enjoyed little use in other niches. This makes the strategy ideal for your eBook profit niche.

So, check out this Giveaway Events manual.

So, while a Giveaway Event can product lots of Opt-in subscribers and even earn some cash, problems can leave your eBook business looking foolish and inept. You need to test every aspect of he script that you install before bringing this system online. You must avoid making even minor mistakes because snafus can become a "Loose-Loose-Loose" situation that you don’t want to contemplate.

So, study what you need to do first…and test every step of the way.

One way to study is to get inside the operation of an eBook entrepreneur that has the system worked out.

For this, just sign up as an affiliate and not everything that the expert is doing.

Jason James runs a Giveaway that you can model> your eBook profit giveaway after.
